Who we are and how we work.
UltraLife is an online fitness coaching company that helps adults 35 and older get strong and stay capable for decades. It is run by two coaches, Mackie and Juliet Root, from Boulder, Colorado.
What UltraLife does
Always Ready
Our main program. Five planned workouts a week in the app: three strength workouts and two cardio interval workouts, built in training blocks that progress through the year. It is a shared program for people with some lifting experience, and coaching is included. You start with a free 30-minute Kickoff Call, then ask questions and send form videos in the app. Seven days free, then $49 a month, cancel anytime in the app. See the full program.
Custom Coaching
One-on-one training and nutrition with Mackie or Juliet. An individual plan built around your goals, equipment, schedule, and history, with direct access to your coach. This is the right fit if you are training for a specific event, working around an injury, or new to weights. It starts with a free strategy session. Request a strategy session.
Retreats
A few days a year of hiking, training, and eating well with a small group. Costa Rica is February 7 to 12, 2027. Colorado returns in 2027, dates to be announced. See the retreats.
Free tools
A calorie and macro calculator and a newsletter, The Long Game.
The people behind UltraLife
Juliet Root owned and operated gyms in Philadelphia for over a decade. Thousands of people, in person, every day. She now coaches training and nutrition online.
Mackie Root coached in Philadelphia for a decade too, then produced fitness content for some of the biggest brands out there and learned how to coach well at a distance.
We are both certified trainers and board-certified nutrition coaches, and we both coach the nutrition side of our programs. Along the way we added certifications in Olympic weightlifting, yoga, online training, and the psychology of eating. We are also ultra runners and hybrid athletes, strength first. We have been coaching for about 20 years, and we train the way we ask you to: around work, family, and a full life. We started UltraLife after moving to Colorado, to bring what we learned in the gym to people we could not see in person. We also teach cycling and strength classes in person in Boulder.
Find us on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. If you are in Boulder and want in-person training, that is TrainBoulder, our local practice.
Who UltraLife is for
- Adults 35 and older who would rather stay capable than chase a number.
- People who have trained with weights before and want a structured, progressive plan.
- People with a full life who want one plan that fits around work and family, and a coach they can ask.
- Anyone preparing for a race, an event, or a big trip, or working around an injury. That is Custom Coaching.
It is not for anyone who wants a 30-day challenge with no plan for day 31, or a crash diet. We don't write those.
How working with us goes
- Who you talk to. Mackie or Juliet. There is no support team between you and your coach.
