Always Ready vs Future: which online coaching fits you?
Short answer: Future gives you a one-on-one coach who builds a plan only for you, at $199 a month after a $50 first month, or as low as $149 a month on a 12-month prepaid plan. Always Ready is one program that two coaches, Mackie and Juliet Root, write every week for adults 35+, with coaching in the app for $49 a month. If you need a plan built around you, pick Future. If you've lifted before and want a clear weekly structure with coaches you can ask, Always Ready costs about a quarter as much.
The real difference is who the plan is written for
Both options put a real coach in your phone. The difference is how much of the plan belongs to you alone.
With Future, your coach writes your program around your goals, schedule, and equipment. You meet on a Kickoff Call, message in the app, flag exercises you want swapped, and your coach adjusts the plan week to week. That's the strength of one-on-one coaching, and it's why it costs more.
With Always Ready, we write one program every week, and everyone trains the same week together. You choose the dumbbell-and-bench version or the full-gym version of each workout. When you have a question or want a form check, you send it to us in the app. We don't rewrite the program for you. We help you run it well.

What an Always Ready week looks like
Every week follows the same pattern. We call it 3-2-1.
- 3 strength workouts, 45-60 minutes each. They build in blocks through the year, so the weights go up over time.
- 2 interval sessions: a 45-minute longer one and a 30-minute shorter, harder one. Use any machine, or go outside.
- 1 low-intensity session: a long, easy effort or a step goal for the week. It can be a hike, a long walk, or a ride. We leave it off the app schedule so it fits wherever you want it.
Five workouts are planned in the app, and the sixth is yours to place. We built it this way because after 35 you need all three kinds of training. Strength keeps you capable. Intervals raise your fitness. Easy volume adds fitness you can recover from. Most people do one or two of these and drop the rest, and a set week makes that harder to do.
It's also a live program. You join the week the group is on and keep going. There's no 12-week plan that ends and leaves you guessing.
Who should pick Future instead
- You want every workout written for you alone.
- You're new to lifting and want a coach adjusting each step with you.
- Your schedule changes so much that a shared week won't work.
- You want your coach to build your plan around a sport or class you already love.
- You'll use the extra attention, and $149 to $199 a month fits your budget.
Choose Always Ready if
- You're 35 or older and you've trained with weights before.
- You want strength, intervals, and easy cardio planned in one week without designing it yourself.
- You want to know exactly who's coaching you. It's Mackie and Juliet.
- You train with dumbbells at home, in a full gym, or a mix of both.
- You'd rather spend $49 a month and put the difference toward the rest of your life.
If you like us but want a plan built around you
That's our Custom Coaching, the one-on-one option. We build your training and nutrition around your goal, your equipment, and your calendar, usually three to six training days a week and sometimes two, depending on what you need. It suits a race, a big trip, an injury, or a first year of lifting. Pricing is set after a free strategy session, so apply and talk to us.
Who's writing your training
We're Mackie and Juliet Root, a married couple who coach together. We've been coaching since 2010, and each of us brings more than 20 years of strength and conditioning experience. Juliet co-owned and ran gyms in Philadelphia for more than a decade, where Mackie coached too. Mackie later produced fitness content for some of the biggest brands out there and learned how to coach well at a distance. We still teach cycling and strength classes in person in Boulder, Colorado. We run ultras, we've hiked the Tour du Mont Blanc and the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites, and we've coached clients to a Hyrox NYC age-group win and the summit of Kilimanjaro. We train the same 3-2-1 way we ask you to.
"I have been training with them both for over 10 yrs in person and virtually due to relocating."
